Conviction of the Heart :: a Shaman King (2001 ver. & manga) tribute

Love, sin, dreams, and darkness

wear all of them now

Greetings! This is Patty and welcome to Conviction of the Heart, a shrine dedicated to the multi-cultural shonen classic Shaman King, particularly its manga and its respectable alternative story, the 2001 anime.

This tribute is a labor of my love for the series, and so you will find here my thoughts, analysis writeups, smaller fan projects, archives, edits and more fan things I might do in the future! The idea to make this website has been going around at the back of my head since 2005, but it has only been fulfilled on 8/23/2022 through Carrd. The background design is a cheap collage I made featuring shards of screepcaps from the manga, original 2001 TV series and Flowers (because a piece of my feeble heart also belongs to some of the next gen kids), whilst "Conviction of the Heart" was derived from Kenny Loggin's song of the same title. It is and will always be my ultimate theme song for the series. While this fan site is still hugely under construction, I hope the available content will bring you as much joy and nostalgia as it does for me. Please drop by every other time to see updates and changes~

I live with facing my destiny

from me to you, northern lights

An Overview on Shaman KingJust a little refresher: Shaman King, or ManKin, as fans lovingly call it-- is about a 13-year-old shaman who hones his spiritual abilities throughout his life to battle malevolent souls and misguided shamans on a tournament to become the next Shaman King; a divine figure that can reshape the future of humanity. The manga was written/drawn by Hiroyuki Takei and was first published under Shonen Jump on June 30, 1998. Its first run lasted for 285 chapters that ended with a cliffhanger. On 2008 however, the manga resumed for 15 more chapters to provide a proper conclusion to the story. The completed version was then called the KanZenBan edition. The first anime adaptation directed by Seiji Mizushima and produced by Xebec consisted of 64 episodes that aired from July 4, 2001 - September 25, 2002. This series' main difference from the recent Shaman King (2021) was how the story slowly diverged from the manga starting around the America/Patch Village arc-- which was around volume 10-11 of the manga. Though the latter parts of the series has been anime-exclusive, many of its elements and character influences were still from the manga.

Leaving your voice is more than words

I know enough

Some series get to get remakes these days. Older versions then are slowly being buried underground by search engines as this is the natural course of indexing new content. There are, of course, official and unofficial sources of these media that are accessible to the public such as official sites, anime- oriented sites and fan sites. But as our online worlds develop hastily, many of these sources are already defunct. I, myself, could no longer find relevant media and merchandises for Shaman King 2001 and likewise the first version of its manga-- dubbed by others as "Original 32"-- was no longer in print. Takei himself has literally drawn over his drafts to make the updated, KanZenban edition xD so pretty much anything from the early 2000's has almost been forgotten. So, to commemorate the said versions of the series and to keep this very gold mine from being wiped out, I put up a mini gallery of its official illustrations. Please feast your eyes with the beauty of the old times' artworks~!Soft reminder that I do not claim the ownership of the images below.
